MySQL Configuration on Liferay

I've downloaded and extracted Liferay bundled with Tomcat 6. Started Tomcat with no issue. However, I decided to use MySQL for the database so I create the database lportal in MySQL and created the file portal-ext.properties in the root directory of Liferay.

This is the content of portal-ext.properties:

Then I start the webserver again. I can see that tables and data are created in MySQL. But when http://localhost:8080 is opened, nothing is displayed. The page is white.

Tomcat console shows very long exceptions. How can I log this exception to a log file? And anyone knows what is causing this problem?

C:\liferay\bundles\liferay-portal-tomcat-6.0-5.2.3\portal-ext.properties. This is the file need to be modified. Below properties need to be added in that file.

jdbc.default.driverClassName=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
jdbc.default.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/lportal?useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=UTF-8&useFastDateParsing=false
jdbc.default.username=root
jdbc.default.password=root
