Hi Ranchers,

Can you help me to know that how good SCJP1.6 holds good after Oracle has taken over Sun? Will they be promoting these SCJP kind of certifications or not? I wanted to know will it hold the same value for companies who are hiring ?

Regards,
Nancy

To tell you the truth, having SCJP certification doesn't give you that much advantage in getting a job. IMO Oracle taking over Sun won't have much difference on the value of the certification. It will influence the choice of recruiters as much as it used to do before...

Really? So I'm wasting my time with SCJP6 before getting an entry level Java programming job?

If the whole purpose of the SCJP is to get a job -- then yea, people here are kinda saying that. If the purpose is to improve your skills, and to have a way (reason) to study for it, and be tested for it, then the SCJP is a good target to use.

Ok, thanks. I just thought becoming a better programmer would help me get my first job as a programmer. Oh, well, at least I am learning something.

If you use the search feature you can find previous, useful discussions on this topic.

My feeling is that you can't count on a certification making a difference in whether or not you get an initial interview. On the other hand, the effort you put into getting the certification WILL make you a better programmer and should, in a reasonable tech. interview, help you have a better interview.
