how to compile single java file - to avoid building the entire project

Is there any way to compile a single java file?? when i make simple changes in the action classes, it needs to build the entire project..it takes more than 4 minutes to build the project even for the small changes..

How are you building your project now? Ant will only compile source files that have changed. I believe Maven does the same thing.

ya i am using Ant to build files.. I think i have misunderstood the way Ant compiles... If that compiles only the changed file why does it takes more than 4 min to load.. is it the time taken for deployment? Please explain.. sorry for multiple questions..

Someone else asked this same question a while back. Turns out that before the compile step the build script deleted the classes directory.

Anyway, since this is an Ant question, moving...
