What next after SCEA?

How does one become a successful (practicing) architect after becoming an SCEA??

In my personal opinion, this is big question, most of us will be having in our mind.

Well honestly i dont have the answer myself.

What i read and heared from friends/groups, few people go for PMP, few go for TOGAF and other frameworks, few go for IBM certifications. As IT is big world, so it all depends on the individual interest and thought also.

As PMP and SCEA are two separate things, but i known people who have both certifications and currently working as technical consultant role.

So i guess it's a tough question, with no stratight answer.

One thing which i know is to become better Architect, bottom line is keep reading books (what's happening in IT industry) and implementing, as one person can not know everything, so having the right attitude is also important...as some one said "Stay Hungry..Stay foolish".

As you mentioned about TOGAF, let me ask this
TOGAF is a technology agnostic cert. Does it help to have some hands-on in Microsoft technologies too, before going for TOGAF?

As you mention TOGAF is technology agnostic and is an architecture framework. There is nothing in TOGAF that requires you to have hands-on experience with Microsoft (or any other) implementation platform.

Now that I have completed SCEA, I am planning on taking two more certifications. At this point, I am trying to ascertain which one of the two is more sought after in the industry. The two certifications that I have in mind are "TOGAF 9 certification" and "IBM Certified Solution Advisor - Cloud Computing". The first one is much more formal and geared towards the discipline of enterprise architecture. The second certification is fairly new, but requires you to learn a lot of cool stuff that geeks would enjoy learning.

As you get close to a 10 year mark in IT.. Re-evaluate your options.
Would you choose to enable Service Oriented Architecture in a company as an Enterprise Architect for an Annual Salary of 'X' or would you be interested in heading an IT department as a Program Manager with an Annual Salary of '2X' ?

I don't know.. I guess it comes down to the individual.
