This week's book giveaway is in the Mac OS forum.
We're giving away four copies of a choice of "Take Control of Upgrading to Yosemite" or "Take Control of Automating Your Mac" and have Joe Kissell on-line!
See this thread for details.

Java 1.4 introduced the JavaxSound API which can play a much wider range of formats; see http://www.exampledepot.com/taxonomy/term/300.

For MP3, specifically, you can use JMF. There pure-Java version of it wouldn't require the apple to be signed, and there is an MP3 addon for it.

In the future, please UseAMeaningfulSubjectLine. "applet" doesn't provide any hint what the question is about in a forum that's completely dedicated to applet questions.
