We've been waiting for it for a long time, and now it's here: Scala 2.8.0.
A lot has changed in this version compared to Scala 2.7: there's a whole list of new language features and also the libraries have evolved, especially the collections library has been rewritten and is now much better than in Scala 2.7.

Finally!
Aside from the Collections stuff, which is really cool. My favorite feature of 2.8 is the named/ default arguments. Which is probably a big enough change in syntax to warrant the bumping of the major number to 3.0, but of course they didn't ask me.
