I passed the SCJP 6 today! I was a bit rushed for time because I took it out of state (US) and I had to do it before I went back home.
My background information for those who might want to compare-
I studied for the SCJP for 1 and half month straight. I have taken only two basic courses in java in college.
People I need to thank:
1. Java ranchers!! thank you for answering so many of the doubt and confusions of questions. I could look my questions up and 90% of the time find an answer on it. Thanks for your contributions!
2. Devaka, thank you for your ExamLab!! Your questions were great at helping me find my weakness and the subject I did not understand fully even though it made me want to pull my hair out sometimes I got 30 and 36% on the diagnostic and 1st test, 48% on 2nd, and final exam i skimmed so I shouldn't count that. But I think I really wouldn't have passed without your ExamLab.
3. Bert, Kathy! thanks for the book, it was a great book for me who had to go back and pick up on java again! I read this book once through
Tips to others- Jot down notes as you review answers so you can remember them next time or read over it again. Write your own or copy the programs from problems you don't get and tweak them around if you have other doubts. I copied/wrote around 100? programs at least to understand some things.
The test itself was not horrible, and nothing on serialization and notify, wait on threads for me. around 9 drag and drop questions for me. I was really wondering about that too. My experience at the center: there was a guy at the center who was laughing like a hyena in another room for 2 hours on and off while I took the test. that was really bothersome.
Since I only did get an 80%, I'm going to go back and read Kathy and Bert book again to master the knowledge I need to keep going for the next test I'll be preparing for. Goodluck to all you others!!
