The client is proposing to use php as front end instead of struts while the middle layer and backend remains in java.
What are the downsides of using php instead of Struts?
What are the technical challenges in integrating php with java?
Are there any documents regarding this?

The reason is that they have resources trained in PHP and not in struts.
