Using JQuery JSF components together

Our project is JSF-Seam-JBoss based. Most of the UI components we use or JSF Components. One performance drawback I see with JSF is everything is server-side-validation.
On the other hand when I google ExtJS or JQuery (which I am not familiar to) they have some cool components with client-side-validation.

Having said that, Can anyone help me understand how much of a effort it is to mix other components with JSF components. Will that do any damage to JSF/Seam lifecycle.

Does jQuery In Action address these kind of situations or is it all about jQuery.

jQuery in Action does not cover interaction with JSF -- that's certainly not a mainstream topic.
