I woke up this morning to the local paper I read having the cover story and largest text on the page:
iSnobs - iPad users 'selfish elitists
Wait a minute. I own an iPad. My newspaper is insulting me! What a start to the morning.
Then I read the article. Bunch of fluff. The "study" was a technology firm asking Facebook users questions and learned that iPad owners "are more likely to be business-obsessed snobs who lack altruism and compassion." So we've learned Facebook users are representative of the population and this company doesn't know how to do a study.
The study also "found that people making more than $200,000 a year were four times more likely than the average Joe to have one" - Really? People who earn a lot of money bought an expensive gadget. Shocked.
You'd think there was no news to report that this got the cover story.
And aside from the fact there isn't causation, there is barely correlation. They found that "business-obsessed snobs who lack altruism and compassion" are more likely to own an iPad so therefore we make sweeping comments about all iPad users?
I thought "business-oriented users" bought Microsoft, and Apple users were turtleneck-wearing, mochaccino-sipping, clove-cigarette-smoking, patchouli-smelling, barefoot, stubble-chinned/hairy-pitted hippies?
