From a blog posting by Steve Yegge ...

Steve Yegge wrote:Java programmers around the globe are in a panic today over a Wikileaks press release issued at 8:15am GMT. Wikileaks announced that they will re-release the source code for thousands of Open Source Java projects, making all access modifiers 'public' and all classes and members non-'final'.

It carries on for quite some time. Quite an entertaining read.

I am the director of the Class Immutability association and I strongly object against this monstrosity. I ask, why stop there. Why not make all fields static public.

Wont someone please think about the singletons !

I hear all these lefties crying to 'protect the code' but it did fine for years without our protection. Code raised in an overly protected environment is unable to compete in the wild. Say No to enforced regulation and Yes to Open systems that stand bare to all and survive by their own merits.

No, all singletons are evil, we should and must kill them.

Making member functions and fields public, that is different, that is evil. It must be stopped.
