what is interceptor-ref tag in struts?

In my project on strutsconfig.xml following interceptor-ref tag is used ..why we use it?

This is basically a filter for controlling requests (Basically sits between controller and action).

Could be used for Image-Upload/EventLogging etc.

It's explained very well in Struts2 docs http://struts.apache.org/2.x/docs/interceptors.html

The interceptor-ref element defines an interceptor stack and may set parameters on the stack's interceptors.
