getServletContext().getAttribute(Globals.MESSAGES_KEY) always returns NULL

I have an application.

When my application starts I am trying to do m_controlServlet.getServletContext().getAttribute(Globals.MESSAGES_KEY);

But this always returns NULL.

Can anybody please tell me what settings i am missing to do?
