Hey,
Apache Solr is a search server built using Lucene.
When to use Solr and why? What are the typical use cases for Solr?
Thanks.

Is there information missing from the Solr home page that would help you answer that question? I mean, it's pretty straight-forward in describing what it is.
Perhaps the
Solr feature list
would help you?
