I am planning to start preparing for SCJA, so i have a few questions to ask :-
1) How difficult is the exam as compared to SCJP?
2) Is studying only SCJA Sun Certified Java Associate by Robert Liguori sufficient for the exam?
3) What is the average time for preparing the exam? (Compared to if i took 2 months to prepare for SCJP)?
Thanks in advance for your replies!!

1) SCJA is a bit easy than SCJP but SCJA has more broad course than SCJP. With SCJP, concentration is on Java programming while for SCJA concnetration is on whole Java platform on high level. So, if you are experienced software profressional then you may find SCJA a bit easy.
2) sorry, i do not know about this.
3) again, depends , if you are experienced Java professional then 2 months may be sufficient. It is very difficult to judge average time for any Sun certification exam as it depends on various parameters- course, candidate background (fresher/experienced in non Java field/ experienced in Java field etc), amount of time candidate can spend daily on certification study etc.

1) In short, SCJP is difficult, SCJA is easy.
2) No single resource is sufficient for preparation to get truly high marks, as such I list several resources in the front of my book that will assist you including mock exams and other texts. You will definitely want to pick up the books by Cameron McKenzie.
3) Study/experience time: 2-6 months for SCJA, 1-2 years for SCJP.
