(without having any pre knowledge about earthquakes)

The World need oil, metal, water and what not that we get from land. That creates empty space inside land. and when land plates try to adjust we have earthquakes. The same we do with oceans too. Does that mean earthquakes are always expected because we will always keep drilling to satisfy the needs? At some point we would have ZERO resources and yet living on Moon/Mars is not practical. What next? Have you ever given a thought?

[Edit : Corrected the spelling. So no more quack quack please. :P]

While some man-made activities can cause earthquakes (mostly dams which can change the weight distribution above-ground drastically) drilling and mining are not known to cause earthquakes.

Earthquacks on the other hand, are the result of a giant underground duck.

Or ducks. Sometimes there is more than one.

Many millions of years ago the earth actually was in the shape of a duck.
Now, the mice claim that they built the earth in order to find the answer to life, the universe and everything, but (and not many people know this), all they really did was to reshape the earth from the duck shape into the near sphere that we all know and love today.
However, at night, when the earth is asleep it sometimes dreams of its former life and lets out a mournful cry that it is no longer a duck. This is known as an earthquack.

You can't change the title. It turns all the replies into meaningless drivel. Oh wait ...

Really? Billions and billions of barrels of oil being drilled everyday.

Yes, really. Earthquakes have happened for ages and ages. Drilling and mining on a large scale have happened only the last 150 years or so.

Educate yourself: Earthquake

rough calculations put the volume of the crust at 1x10^20m3 (based on a quote saying it was about 1% the volume of the Earth)
so 1x10^9m3 man-made change per day, distributed around the world, is hardly significant IMO

It's fairly well documented that a series of earthquakes in Basel, Switzerland, were caused by drilling deep geothermal wells. This is the most apologetic article I could find on the topic; there are plenty of others that are far more pessimistic.

Remove bottom row. I think at some point human activities do affect.

You can believe what you want, based on your own amateur theories, but that doesn't make any of it true.

Yes! We humans are also messing up the Earth's magnetic field, which in turn is causing magnetic disturbances in the Sun's atmosphere. The recent CME proves that. The End is near I say.

Most of us live on the surface of the earth (give or take a minuscule (in earth terms) distance - a few feet above or below). So in your diagram we would be removing fractions of a brick from the top of the wall.

According to earthquake facts "The earliest recorded evidence of an earthquake has been traced back to 1831 BC in the Shandong province of China, but there is a fairly complete record starting in 780 BC during the Zhou Dynasty in China." This predates drilling by roughly 1200 years (according to the natural gas site).

It is a well known fact that earthquakes are caused by disturbance in magnetic fields. This happens because the earth's magnetic field clashes with fridge magnets. In order to avoid this, the magnetic field lines of all the fridge magnets in the world should be adjusted to align with the earth's magnetic field. Else disaster will prevail.

The passing of which is, of course, another leading cause of earthquakes!
