I would consider you as extremely unlucky if you accept lower salary job after BTech Computer and do not get yourself misguided in forums because jobs, salaries for India discussed in forums may be speculations by HR consultants. My advice is be careful accepting any lower salary jobs because you have good qualification.

@gaurav raje -- the job salary which you mentioned here is too low for a engineer with this qualification !!!

well there are a few reasons i mentioned......
I am talking about the average salary. Not the high end salary.

I am open to discussion about this(Not fight). Again this is only for freshers. Many of the concepts which apply for experienced positions will not apply.
When i tried(2008, arnd 2 years back). The big giants like infosys, tata, etc were having bulk recruitment rounds. In bulk recruitment, they had the routinely chalked out process and interviews at the end. From my experience, the job salaries were more or less fixed for the bulk of the crowd. No special provision was made to accomodate people with any sort of certification. Certifications helped during the interview process, but there was no salary hike in the big giants for fresher jobs. After the job was awarded to arnd 100 people along with you, the certifications helped in getting better projects.

The smaller companies donot have a salary figure, but i know more than half of my colleagues who work for salaries less than 20000 which kinda evens the average to 20-25thousand. Even though many people might find a job for more(30 or sometimes evenn 50 in some cases), there is a vast majority still working for arnd 10-15000. (also a few working in call centers which i am not even considering).

When I went for campus and off campus placements(2008), I remember having offered a salary of 2.85 per annum which amounts to somewhere arnd 22(i didnot calculate) per month. Things changed since then I remember last heard infosys was offering 3.4 to freshers which again is subject to change. But again its a giant, which clearly doesnot define average.

Last point i would like to make, SCJP is a tool, not a qualification or experience. Tools will help, not add. So it might not be wise to consider yourself better than most of the people who work in an organization only because of certification.

If you gained knowledge and are able to find a job in a top company, you might be able to get a job as high as 50000. These kind of jobs are not unheard of. But since you asked a general (which i assume was the average) salary, this is what you should find.

It might be, but you have to consider that you don't have any work experience.

As Gaurav mentioned, most of the big companies have fixed salary packages for freshers. And if you go for smaller companies, they would want experience more than certifications. When I was a fresh B.E. graduate in 2006, looking for a job in Bangalore, I already had completed my SCJP certification, but it hardly mattered. When I went to any small company, all they used to care for is whether I have any experience. Most of them never even looked at my certification.

I don't want to discourage you, but as a fresher, if you haven't got a job from campus recruitment, you should try to be ready for working on lower salaries for the first couple of years. Your salary will increase as you gain experience.

But again, this is my personal experience. YMMV.
