Hello,

I'm currently studying for SCJP certification. Afterwards, I would love to learn how to create applications for smart phones.

One issue: I don't own a smart phone, only a cell phone. Fortunately, Verizon will let me switch my cell phone for a smart phone.

Please advise the best type of smart phone to use for learning how to create Jave ME applications. i.e. should it have Android OS, how much memory should the phone have, should it be a blackberry, palm, etc, etc.

Thank you for your guidance

Be aware that Android and JME are separate development and runtime environments - they're rather different, and no smartphone runs both, so you'll need to decide between the two.

I think JME support for Palm stopped a couple of years ago, so it's no longer an option. The BlackBerry is probably the best option for JME at this point.

Both Android and JME have software emulators that come with the respective development kits, though, so you wouldn't necessarily need a phone to get started.

@ Lester: Thanks for that clarification, I'll stick with JME for now (being that I am already on the Java path). Will look into emulators rather than rushing to buy Blackberry.
