Half knowledge about programmin(core java...) so is it ok to take up projects which involves JSP.....will my personal experience upgrade me or should i first complete reading all the books word by word..

If you don't start until you have read all the books on the subject word for word you will never start.

As modern JSPs have no Java code within them, Java isn't necessarily a JSP issue. However, JSPs are useless without the servlets and beans to back them up. So if your Java knowledge is enough to get you going with servlet and bean technology, I see no reason not to dive in.

I have read aroung 600 pages and now dont get time to read the rest...wouldnt the practical experience help me out?

Ermm, you don't try out what you are reading?
That should be normal with IT books.
