After much good fortune this year (like living together and finding a good job), I passed the SCJP6 exam with 90%
Of course, I couldn't have done it without the staff and fellow Java Programmers on this site. Therefore, I'd like to thank all of you for the help and the support;
Bert Bates and Kathy Sierra for writing THE book on SCJP; without your book I definitely would never have attempted this exam this year,
Devaka Cooray for creating the great testing tool that is ExamLab, it taught me a lot and reassured me after taking the final exam that I could pass the SCJP.
Ankit Garg and Deepak Bala For being the SCJP forum mods I haven't mentioned and are most active as well; you guys helped me a lot and made me realize
that it's best if I figure something out for myself rather than reading the answers to my questions and storing them in my main memory =)
And last but not least, all my fellow JavaRanch posters who aim to be the best at what they do and aim to help others be the best at what they do. I have all of you to thank for this.

Well, the exam was hard! I was well-prepared, and I hadn't gotten much sleep even though I'd tried (of course they have to have a festival right in front of my house the night I need sleep the most). On the ExamLab tests I didn't review my answers, and I never needed two hours to make it. Of course the ExamLab is harder, but not by that much actually. Luckily, I was well prepared and reviewing my answers really gave me a few additional points, I'm sure of it. I finished my exam with about 20 minutes to spare and it was a great relief to succeed in my first try, moreso because my employer was paying for it; I really didn't want to fail.
If I'd have one advice; I'd say this: don't schedule the exam until you're fully confident in your ability. Study the K&B book at least twice, but more definitely can't hurt. If another book says something else, know that the SCJP Study Guide is right and the other book is wrong. Write every doubt out in code, in NetBeans but also in NotePad and compiler, because NetBeans is sometimes different than javac. Also, practicing with the compiler will help you with the commandline questions.
Also, after you're fully confident of your knowledge of K&B's study guide, do all ExamLab exams, LearnKey MasterExam, the Cattle Drive thing on this site is also very helpful for practice.
And oh! Study Collections well, it's important and my personal least aspect. Especially the returntypes of methods and such, and what they really return. If a TreeSet method returns a SortedSet, can it be cast to a TreeSet? That kind of stuff.
A few more questions:
I got my score report... Is there anything more i can do other than wait for my certificate? Could anyone direct me to a site I should sign up or something? The score report tells me to go to "http://oracle.com/certification/" but there's nothing I can do there. I always get lost on the Oracle site.

btw, I'm going to be busy with work for the next couple of months, but I'll probably start learning something else in the mean time (I'm on the train 2-3 hrs a day).
What would you recommend I do next (I was thinking either SCEA or SCWCD), and what books would you recommend, and why?

How long did it take you to prepare for the exam?

Around two months is what it took me, but if I'd had more time, I would've taken more. 3-4 months is best, I think. I must admit though, that I had already read the Mughal/Rasmussen book a few months before I started my preparation. I just couldn't wait any longer, because I'll be way too busy the next two months.
Congratsss Dieter!! I knew you would rockkk! Good score!! Dont stop here..keep going! SCWCD/SCJD/SCDJWS..something..something...
I too will be taking my SCJP in a month or so... Preparing..preparing..preparing..!!
