Best book for SCJD?

Hi Team,

I'm looking for resources to study for the SCJD exam. I like the outline in the book below:
SCJD Exam with J2SE 5, Second Edition (Expert's Voice in Java) by Terry Camerlengo and Andrew Monkhouse

However, is it worth purchasing the book if the exam is for J2SE 6 but the book only covers J2SE 5? I'm assuming that majority of the topics are covered, but would like to check with team here on your opinion.

Thanks in advance for your help and support.

Hi James,
I'm working through my project now using the same book. I'm very new to Java and I think it's a good read, very informative and relevant to the assignment. Its a great addition to my small Java library. For other resources, the ranch also provides a whole lot of information (see previous posts, faq's and tutorials). I can guarantee you will find something of interest.

Regards, Robert.

Andrew's book is still the best one on the market. And when combined with the amount of valuable information (accessible through the search engine) and tools, test cases,... (see ScjdFaq) on this forum, success is (almost) guaranteed.

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick responses and I feel better about purchasing the book (in addition to the other resources here and google).

Are you certain?

Sorry, had to do it!

As for the book and the certification itself, there is really very little difference between Java 5 and 6 - minor API updates, big performance boost; whatever you read for 5 is still valid for 6. Also, the exam and the book is more focused on design and patterns.

The Monkhouse's book is a classic for SCJD. Very easy to read and understand.

There are a new book also, a William Manning's SCJD book. But I never read it.
Maybe someone that reads it can share your concerns with us: http://www.coderanch.com/t/509546/java-developer-SCJD/certification/New-SCJD-book
