This bugreport contains 2 parts because I think there related.

Today I posted a url using the url button with a dash (-) in it. That got transformed to an a with a caret on it (^).
Example: link

But when trying to write this post I noticed that my a with a caret on it got transformed to â.

Basically I think something is wrong

Update:
When it's posted on the forum it is all good however it's still wrong in the preview.

Just to clarify. Copy this post and view it in a preview:

I tried to reproduce this, but failed. Could you post exact steps, being careful to point out the specific characters that are behaving oddly?

Hopefully this image will clarify it.

I wonder if it has to do with character-set defaults in your browser; maybe the preview isn't handling those right. I know when we were first working on JForum we found several places where character sets were being ignored and bad things were happening; maybe this is another one of those spots. But in any event, the problem doesn't happen for me -- that text previews fine. I will look at the code that generates the preview and see if I see anything funny.

I just tried to reproduce it in firefox and that failed. So the problem is with my browser.

It's Opera Version 10.62 Build 3500. That is the latest stable build.

Great! Happens for me too in Opera 10.62 (build 8437) on Mac OS X. Now I have something to go on...

It's most likely an encoding problem. The dashes in that link are not - (shift 8, int value 45) but – ( int value 8211). As another Opera user I have the same problem.
