Just Java 2, Sixth Edition, now 6 years old, isn't that a LONG time ago, in computing terms ?

Just wondering about the book, in that it's 6 years old now, makes reference to Longhorn and such. I realize I'm just learning how to pick up and use a screwdriver and hammer, maybe a Phillips head and also needle nose-pliers, but what's the gap between this book and today's environment ?

It's a fair amount of time in programming terms, but it covers the basics that you need really well.

Many people on the cattle drive make do without it.

Katrina, thanks for the reply.

I have the book and am using it, just on Chapter 2, but was just wondering. It's a big help

I have a different Java text, and Head First Java and I get what I need for the cattle drive out of those (oh and the internet.... couldn't do without the Java tutorials, the API, and JavaRanch!)
