Can any one tell me how to connect java with sql server 2008 and which version of jar file is needed to connect

Its the same thing how you connect to other databases.
The jar file will be in the installation folder of sqlserver i think (generally it comes with database or db client).

Another option is to use jTDS.

My java application is connected via jtds
