I come to know that it is an open source.. So can we modified it by our requirements??

More or less. Most parts are open source. Important parts are not, like basic apps, Google apps or drivers. It is not possible to build an android phone ground up only with open source software yet.
 
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
