Which DB- Postgre or MySql

Hi,

I'm planning to start working on web programming. Please guide me on which database would be easy to learn and use? My configuration is

OS: Ubuntu
WebServer: Tomcat
Server code: Servlets

Neither is any easier to learn or use -- for the most part, they're going to be effectively identical from the Java perspective. Postgres has some technical advantages, but Mysql remains more popular; no one knows why.

I would then go with Postgre. Any suggestions on my configuration?

Hmm, not sure what you're asking, but if you don't have postgres installed already, you can probably grab it just by typing

sudo apt-get install postgresql

Ubuntu is designed so that the default configuration should be good enough until you know what you need. Or it blows up in your hands. In our office we say "suck it and see" ie try it out!
