what to do after learning the basics

Hi All,

I am currently learning the JAVA basics, the JAVA language itself.I was wondering what are some of the current "Coolest Technologies", like groovy ,Android and so on or the best up and comming ones??
I am wanting to start looking into the possabilities of what to learn and what direction i may go.I would like to start learning something on the side while i learn the Basics as i see allot of the other technologies are still kind of a language in themselves.Any ideas or tipps? I am thinking maybe desktop apps that utilize a webServer or API, or maybe something to do with Cloud Computing ?? not sure...

I Always believed that, java Basis is the most important part in java.
but at first,you can choose your direction on java,such as swing,javaweb,Distributed Computing,or other things.
choose the direction what you like.and solid your java foundation.

From what I have seen while working with java, i can surely agreee with the fact that JAVA BASIC is the foundation whatever technology/aaplication of technology you would be working on. And the path ahead should be chosen by what kind of applications you want to write. Java is available for almost every kind of device you would want your code to run on. Just chose the one of your choice and explore the endless possibilities offered by JAVA good luck.

I'd say to be patient and go one step after another. Grasp the basics before stuffing your nose elsewhere.
