Alexa ranking is something where each attempt to ask for the alexa rank is counted as a vote for the site. Therefore, asking frequently raises your rank. However, there is a catch: alexa counts only one vote per asker per day. And they track the votes for 90 days. So if you check once a day for 90 days, that counts as 90 votes. But if you check 90 times in one day, that counts as one.
If you are using firefox, I recommend installing quirk searchstatus. It shows the alexa rank and the google pagerank for every site you visit, plus a lot of other handy tools. I use it all day long every day. Plus, every time you visit the ranch, you give us a vote for that day - with no further effort.
