Importing a schema into an existing one

Good Day,

XML Schema import Element shows -


On the other hand, Ivan's study guide shows on page #32 -


So, it's not clear to me whether it's required to specify the schemaLocation in the import element. Actually, the w3schools page says that the four attributes (id, namespace, schemaLocation and any attributes) are optional.

Any thoughts?

Hi!
I used the schemaLocation attribute in the example since this way I could validate an entire XML document that was supposed to adhere to the schema in Eclipse using the right-click document -> Validate option.
