hiee... i gave ocjp 6 n got 53% after preparing for 3.5 months !!

Before the exam i had the basic knowledge of java ... and for the exam read the K&B book 5 times ... Khalid mughal 1times ... and wrote small codes for concepts n code i did not understand !!

did learnkey (K&B) exam till i got 85% constantly in all three exams!!

in Devaka's Exam Lab simulator for final exam in first attempt i got 38% .. in 2nd attempt 52% .. in 3rd attempt 60%!!

did few more free mock exam's ( santis , javaprepare , CertPal , Marcus Greens , niko's...).

I think while giving the exam i had difficulty for sitting for three hrs with concentration for d exam..when d exam started i think nervous so it got me 30 minutes to ans first 10 questions ... n after 2 hrs my concentration started getting low... i even took a 1minute water break .. my exam just ended 15 minutes before ... n did not got time to review all questions!! .. n i suppose my paper had drag drop ques around 10 in between the other ques so that increased the difficulty for me !! ..

n may be my preparation would have been weak that i failed the exam ..!!

Please suggest me -----
----how to improve my approach and preparation for the exam?
---- should i buy a exam simulator ?please suggest one that are less costly? how are enthuware mock exams for preparation ? how are java beat mock questions for preparation?
---- how much more time should i devote for my preparation ?

thanks !!

Sorry to hear that Sonali. You worked & read very harder than me. Now, I am scared to take the exam.

Can you tell a bit more? Whether:

a) you were confident of most answers but surprised later on that you got that score

b) were familiar with the concepts behind the questions but found the answers to be very close, meaning that it was tough to choose between the answers.

c) weren't sure about the concepts that came in the paper so put in quit a bit of guesses

d) any other

I think knowing this would be required to give any suggestions.

@sonal
your java preparation is good but it seems that you had not prepared well mentally
please check your private messages

@Harikrishna

There is no need to worry at all
I think that toughest challenge for the examination is to sit and solve questions continuously for 3 hours
once you are able to do that
you will definitely pass with good score

happy to help

Hello Sonal,
it's really a pity that you didn't pass with such a preparation I think that the biggest part of the exam is to concentrate well for the whole time. I suggest you, for the next time, to eat something just before the exam, so that you will not be hungry and drink a bottle of cola.
BTW, it's natural that your ExamLab (or other simulator) score increases artificially as you take the same mock exam again and again. Did you first take the diagnostic exam, then the three practice exams and finally the final exam? The order is important, because the difficulty increases with each exam.
If you are running out of mock exams, then yes, you can buy some exam simulator.

Hello Sonal,

It's very sad to hear that but failures are the stepping stone of success.

What exam simulators did you follow? Don't lose heart, i can give you my example, due to my unfortunate health, i am not
able to sit for the exam for an year almost. As soon as i start preparing in full swing, my health gets down and i have to miss
my dates. Anyhow, here is the study approach i will suggest you.

- Go through K&B study guide once more. If you have prepared it fully, do the two minute drills and solve the Self Test Answers.
Take important note of concepts and note down somewhere.

- After that purchase a copy of enthuware. It is not free but costs 29-30$ i suppose. It is worth the money. Go through that simulator
completely. Give the exam, pickup up your mistakes, note down important points. This simulator will be your best practice to sit for
the exam continuously for three hours. It has amazing capabilities to pause the exam, restart the exam and so on.

- After that pick up some free mock sites like Certpal, javachamps and solve a couple of quizes.

- Here comes the big battle, after going through all these, pick up ExamLab. The Giant Don't worry if your score less
your scores will improve slowly.

Prepare for the final day and i assure you after ExamLab you will be completing your exam with flying colors.

Hope this helps,

Sorry to hear that. Don't see how you could score 85% on K&B and not passing. I think taking it easy right before the exam is important. Have a good sleep the night before. Do some light activies that you enjoy before going to the exam. Take a walk in the park. Peddle a canoe around. Ride a bike. For me I hiked 6 miles the day before the exam. My exam was in the afternoon so I did a light hike in the morning. Good luck next time.

Been there. Done that. Went back for more. But this time, I took this tiny ad with me:
