Survived my colonoscopy on Wednesday, so after that, I feel ready to tackle JDBC 2a. Do you think I can keep my original set-up using mysql version 3.23.52-nt or will I have to download a newer version? I was looking at the set-up instructions, and it always causes me great stress and anxiety to go poking around in these seldom-visited areas of my system. If I can avoid that and just move on to the frustration of trying to access a database using Servlets and JSP's, I would be extremely thankful.

I think your original mySQL should be ok. We only work with basic SQL, nothing fancy.
