UFO off California Coast

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- The Pentagon is unable to explain images of what witnesses took to be a high-altitude rocket launched off the coast of southern California at sunset Monday, officials said.



What do you think? Aircraft contrail? Weather balloon? Somebody slipped and hit the red button?

I've seen it on TV here too. It doesn't look like a contrail to me, it's a far too thick cloud and seems to come from the surface. Maybe some amateur was illegally launching something.

'Mystery' contrail seen from space (New Scientist). It really matches US Airways flight 808 very well.
