i am not sure this question should be asked or not but just i was curious to know that stats what http://www.clearwebstats.com shows aboubt coderanch.com are approximate correct or not
stats about daily visitor and income per day because if it show income only 700 $ per day its very less if site is having 60-70k daily unique visitors .
Sites like that generate number out of their rears and is someone's idea of thinking what the value of a user/hit is and it is not reality. It does not match reality, not even close. Paul would love that he would be making $700 a day. lol
Dammit! Now I'm going to spend the morning fantasizing about having that much money.
I feel it is innapropriate to talk about the exact finances, but I will tell you this. The income for JavaRanch isn't enough to pay for even one person to be an employee. Not even half time. And we are doing way better with advertisers now than we were a year ago.
I still have to work.
If it weren't for all of the volunteers, this site would be a ghost town.
Smart people with bit websites work fancy deals with big companies, and they use the website for marketing their stuff. It would seem that i am not all that smart.
But I still do enjoy watching the fly go up the moose's nose.

Have you clicked on any of the ads and bought something from those companies? That might be good for ad rates.
Alternatively, would you (or your company) be willing to pay for some kind of premium access to more features, or more (or different) content?

if this is the case that site only earns if some one click and buy then i am really confused with website income method. I am sure not many people click and buy from yahoo also , then how they are earning heck lot of moeny. My God web earning is eating my head out

Just placing the ad also pays. But being able to demonstrate that placing the ad leads to higher sales would allow to charge higher ad rates.

Ya so i am sure coderanch is not doing marketing right or Paul is not much interested to earn much from coderanch
Tech sites typically earn several times less. And forums typically earn several times less again.
So the function here is not income, it is for community and for conveying cool stuff.
I do think that a business could leverage CodeRanch into some sort of massive profit engine: conferences, direct marketing, premium services, job boards, work exchanges, shilling for dating services, trying to sell developers on programming for the blackberry instead of android, a commercial agenda in a weekly newsletter, overpriced classes, forced surveys ....
I get people wanting to buy CodeRanch and do this sort of stuff. Their offers are typically crazy weak and I tell them to piss off.
If you are thinking of starting a tech web site like JavaRanch with the idea of making money, you will probably be disappointed.
JavaRanch started with "you know what would be cool ..." and once in a while I get this idea that I'm going to work hard and somehow make money with it - but those efforts have never panned out. I'll put 80 hours into some idea and the total gross income will be something like $6.22.
For years JavaRanch ran in the red. It has been running in the black for a long time now. But about four times a year we come really close to running in the red again - and then I get off my butt and beat the bushes for advertisers.
Make web sites because you wanna have fun. When you try to make stuff for the sake of money, the site nearly always turns out lame.
Oh! And one more piece of unasked for advice: it has been my experience that if you try to make money, you end up making something like 12 cents per hour. But if you just be a goofball and do whatever cooks your chicken, you make $4.00 per hour.

Yes Paul i do agree and i don't have any plans to make tech site just for sake of information gathering about web earnings i asked because i knew people are friendly here and definitely will tell me the truth . thanks alot again for you guys replies even this is not a SEO forum.
I was interested in social networking site bcause i am tired of dirty politics in MNCs so wanted to have some own website to maintain and earn.

Yahoo doesn't just make money from ads. They have Yahoo MarketPlace (or something like that) where businesses pay for Yahoo to be their front end. Also they can target ads from many different domains.
