Managed SCJP 6 exam with 100% score today - my success story

Today I cleared the SCJP 6 exam with 100% score. This is what i have done:

* having read the wonderful K&B book twice - chapter 1 to chapter 5 then again chapter 1 to chapter 5. then the same for the second half of the book. I took me about 4 months to study this book - I studied intensively in the evenings during the week and regularly on Saturday

* Then about 1 month doing mock exams - MasterExam, Whizlabs and ExamLab and one Inquisition test. ExamLab was very good, in my opinion the best mock test. The interface is very similar to the real exam. MasterExam is also very good.

At least some sleep is necessary before the exam. In fact, the three nights before the exam I had very bad sleeping (resulting from nervousness from the exam - this were the first two nights) and surprisingly the night before the test I had very good sleep - I tried to focus on some nice moments in my life, tried to ignore the fact that I will do the exam the next day.

For 100% some luck is maybe also needed - there vere 2 questions with which I was uncertain, so I selected the options which I found most logical - and luckily, they were right.

I wish you all the best for your SCJP certification!

Fantastic job Rene!

(I know authors who didn't get 100% )

Anyway, we're glad the book helped, and now that you're a certified guru we hope you'll stick around the ranch and help answer some questions!

Bert

Wow, thank you Bert, for your kind words. I will try to help answer questions, I hope I will have some time to do so. Anyway thank you very much for your book - without it, this score would never be possible.

Wow. Congrats Rene for the perfect score.

I wanted to know how was your approach towards the "API Contents". I mean for my sorts it's really difficult to by heart stuff. I know the APIs that I have used but to memorise the exact return type (primitive or Wrapper etc.) the exact access modifier is nightmare for me. I feel we need to know the exact return types and modifiers in the exams particularly for the overloading and overriding type of questions.

I understand it is enough to know most common APIs and with it you can do good in real exam but to achieve a perfect score like you or anyway near that, you really need to do it differently.

I would be grateful if you could share your approach towards studying "API Contents". And also if you could share your notes. And splash cards (memory cards) etc.

Thanks much in advance.

Hello Harish, it is difficult to say how I achieved to remember all the stuff. I had quite some difficulties in the beggining of the book. I remember, that in chapter 3 I wanted to give up, because it seemed so detailed and complex... Nevertheless, I decided to continue, I have allocated myself more time for preparation and studied hard. After each chapter I feeled more and more confident and in the second reading, the concepts seemed much more clear.
So my advice is: never give it up, allocate more time to studiing and be patient.

I also forgot to mention, that as the exam approached, I was doing lots of exercices in Java - small programs to make clear all the concepts which I was uncertain with. I also used javadoc for some classes in the API to know slightly more than it is in the K&B book. I wanted to be sure to pass.
