Interning at IBM I hear it brought up constantly because of their big cloud push, running on ubuntu they've recently integrated cloud functionality into the entire operating system (ubuntu one.) M$ is trying to claim they invented cloud computing with their ridiculous commercials which I keep seeing pop up. Cloud computing is awesome, and definitely where we are heading in terms of technology, however why this sudden drastic push in cloud technology? Is it just about time? Are these corporations just working to adapt to the market and make sure they do not fall behind the other corporations in terms of technology offered? I'm curious to see other peoples take on this.

Would you please refrain from using this kind of bashing? BeNice doesn't only apply to users. I'm no fan of MS, but there's no reason to insult them openly just because they try to make money - which is also what companies like Apple, Google and Amazon are trying to do.
We are live in an exponential time actually, data are explodes, more resources are needed to cope with this data explosion. management of these huge resources and data as well need a big huge efforts to make these data mangement and easy task to do.
So, this is the time of cloud computing (utility computing or whatever the name is) with all its enabling technologies to have a manageable and elastic resources to fulfill the above needs. and accordingly vendors and corporates are concentrating all their efforts to take a part in this trend.
And for this to happen, there are still lots of challenges facing these vendors and companies in order to convince end users to adopt to cloud arena ...like security, compliance, reliability and resilience.

Its more of manageability and reduced cost. Enterprises want to spent less on IT infrastructure and resources , and cloud is the best possible option.

This is extremely true, and also many other factor(access the info from anywhere, central location for your data so it is not distributed on employees laptops, so you can audit the data access and this is for security reasons, scalability of your business, and much more)
I’ve looked at a lot of different solutions, and in my humble opinion Aspose is the way to go. Here’s the link: http://aspose.com
