I'm getting a cannot find symbol for all the lines with response.getParameter().

Apart from the fact that scriptlets are not commonly used these days, where do you get the error exactly ? In an editor ? In a web browser ?

OK guys, I found out my error.

It should have been request.getParameter instead of response.getParameter

Thanks,

Take to heart the other advice you got. Putting Java code and scriptlets in a JSP is a very poor practice that has been discredited for 8 years now.
