We've been having some discussions about an "advocate" custom title and would like to try an experiment. It's a Web 2.0 like experiment about user engagement.
How can I earn the title of "Flex forum advocate" or "JEE forum advocate"?
Next week we have two book promos - one on Flex and one on Active MQ.
Add links to the forum and/or promo - twitter/reddit/etc. Be creative. Add to the Flex or EJB FAQ Share it in whatever way you think appropriate.
Bonus points for
adding more ideas in this thread or providing feedback on the idea in generallinking to the ranch in generalupvoting on the social networking sites listed on the bottom of coderanch.com
Then post in this thread what you did. At the end of the promo, we will be picking someone to get each of these titles.
Thanks to the Java User Groups for giving us this idea.
Note: Since this is an experiment, we don't know all the details yet. The custom title likely isn't permanent, but we don't know how long it will last.

Edited because I learned "evangelist" is more associated with religion to people outside the US. We are now using the term "forum advocate."

The name should have something to do with ranchin', like forum drover. Something along those lines. Gotta stick with the ranch theme.

Again, many ranch terms are not well-known outside the US. While it would be fun to call the new office "cowpuncher", it doesn't quite get the point across like "advocate".

@Joe: Well, under your logic, this site should do away with the whole ranch theme, since "many ranch terms are not well-known outside the US.". Do folks outside the US know what a greenhorn is? Yet, that's what new forum members are called here. Do folks in India know what a "Sheriff" is? While it's known in the US and UK, I'm not sure it's term known in other countries unless they look it up.

I proposed "snake oil salesman" but was shot down.

This thread is a request for advocates. If you want to discuss the JR theme, I suggest starting a new thread. Let's keep this one on topic.

I would be interested in this too -- as this seems to be an idea that didn't get much traction.

Nobody replied last time asking to be the forum advocate.
Let's try it again this week. I'll start a new thread
