How in the heck do I open a command prompt window in XP?

I think you should be able to open one by typing

in the "run" dialog box (which you can usually get to by typing the Windows key + r).

You can also find the shortcut under start/all programs/accessories/command prompt (at least I think that is where it is, kinda different on vista so can't really look to be sure.)

Thanks, guys! Both methods work. I finally found the icon inside the accessories folder, and typing cmd in the run prompt works, too. I also got Hello World to compile and run, so my path and classpath variables must be right! Whew! After all that work I think I deserve a cold one!

And/Or
Double click on "My Computer". Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and find cmd.exe (make sure to choose cmd.exe and not command.com). Right click on the icon and choose "Create shortcut".

At least your pony didn't break his leg.

Yes, thankfully no broken bones! Now, I'm going to send myself the LogApp and see if I can get it set up on the new system. Then I won't have to keep switching my monitor back and forth. This new system is a lot faster on the downloads, if I can just learn to navigate!
