I am curious if there is excerpt or examples from chapter 11 ?. 1st chapter doesn't give me feeling of the book...

It would be interesting to discuss the chapter online or see examples. This is most frequent subject and opens dynamic discussion when it comes to portal development.

By now, there are plenty resources on how to do JSR-286 IPC or Ajax - but I'd like to see how this book covers this subject.

PS: - Oh, btw, will this book be available in electronic format ?

Hi Petar,

There are many inter-portlet examples covered in Chapter 11 of Portlets in Action book. The examples cover how/when to use portlet events, sessions and public render parameters for IPC. You can download all the examples from the following location: http://code.google.com/p/portletsinaction/downloads/list

The chapter 12 is on AJAX goes into the details of using resource URL or ResourceRequests to handle AJAX requests. The examples cover using DWR, jQuery and Dojo to show a Book Catalog portlet, which additionally makes use of Comet or reverse-AJAX support in DWR. A substantial text is dedicated to using Comet for creating real-time portlets and understanding how DWR works behind the scenes. You can find the example Book Catalog portlet at the following source code location: http://code.google.com/p/portletsinaction/downloads/list

The book is currently available under MEAP (Manning Early Access Program), and you can buy the book from Manning website : http://manning.com/sarin/
