Hello ranchers, great fan of javaranch.

I was thinking to take scwcd/Java EE 5 Web Component Developer, reading at the forum I found "Head First Servlets & JSP" 2nd edition is one of the best book. I bought that last year which I really dont know whether its first edition or 2nd edition it does't mention it anywhere, only thing it mentions is Copyright 2004 and J2EE 1.4. I really wanted to know whether this is the right book and would that be helpful in prearing for "Java EE 5 Web Component Developer" certification.

I saw on the forum somewhere "The new JSP & Servlet Developer Certification (OCPJWCD) is not available yet.".
Is it worth taking the exam right now or wait for OCPJWCD to be available.

Thanks,
Anand.

I think it's worth waiting!!!
The beta exam results should be out soon so the new exams would be out within the first quarter or so this year.

Please don't post in all uppercase letters. It's considered shouting, and thus rude, all over the 'net: KeepItDown.

Hi Anand,
Going by your name, I suppose you have bought the book in India, and in that case, I believe the book's first edition is available with whatever small changes there are, being made through reprints. I have an Aug 2004 edition, 22nd Indian Reprint (Dec 2007) which was the latest thing when I bought it.
Anyway, like the others said, I too think the new book should be worth the wait.
It's your call though, after all

Thanks Lalaka Jeerasinghe, Ashutosh camelCase, I bought the book here in USA.
I guess I would wait for the new exam and new book.

I just started studying for the exam 310-083 with the 2nd Edition of HFJS. I see that I can schedule the test through Prometric still. Will the test still be available after the new version comes out (like the OCPJP SE 5 is still available)?
I would think most employers are still running J2EE 1.4 and the test would be relevent still.
I want to prepare as much as I can right now as I am waiting on a job and have lots of time to study.
Where is the information on the new version of the exam coming from? Is there somewhere I can read up on it?
I am hoping to be ready for the exam in a couple of months at the latest.

Had the same issue with me did a little bit research and found out.I think if you schedule and pay for an exam you should still be able to take it even if the new exam is out.You can still prepare HFJS, lot of the concepts in HFJS will still be useful even if the new pattern is out.

Here are the javaranch info about " JSP & Servlet Developer Certification" scwcdlinks-javaranch

Look for CX-310-085 on this page
oracle-certification-page it says
Beta Exam score reports will be mailed to candidates TENTATIVELY February 18, 2011. More updates to come.

So I am guessing the exam should be out in few months.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
