My RIA approach

I want to build RIA using JSF2 (with ICEfaces2), but my question is about RIAs in general. As far as I know one of the requirements of RIA is one page UI, where most of the page is constant and only regions of page are changed. My approach is to have one index.xhtml page where I mask many elements by using rendered attribute to show and hide contents of pages while "header" never changes.

This way all of my action methods return null, but during execution I only change state of boolean variables to toggle dynamic content.
I doubt it's a good attempt. Any tips on how to do it the right way?

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
