Mediator Window Pattern?

Hi,
We have a requirement to provide a seperate window whenver a request is posted from the client. You would have seen this in some desk top applciations, showing a message 'in progress...' We are using struts as the application framework. We need to post the request from this mediator window and respnse will come back to the mediator window.

Has any body done something like this? I know that it is not a normal practice in web applications. Please throw in any information you might have in this kind of set up
