Excel not opening in browser in specified environments

On click of a link, the excel page available in the server location has to open up in a new browser window.
This is failing in some system configurations in production environment
The system configurations in which we face the issue are as follows
1. OS->Windows7 Browser->IE8 Office2010
2. OS->Windows XP Browser->IE8 Office2010
But the same is opening in other environments like dev,test and QA
we are quiet puzzled y the issue is happening only in production environment.
