Is there a way to find out the earlier posts on the same thread?

Hello Ranchers,

Just a quick question. Wouldn't it be nice to just fetch your existing replies (earlier) on the same thread.

This just stroke me when I try to reply for Certification Success posts. I just need to browser through whether I had already replied or not. Had there been a feature (either a graphical indication or a wording which says -- You had already contributed n posts in this thread, where n is the actual # of posts in the same thread.

What's your say?

There is a My Posts link above the messages. Does that help?

Yes, Campbell. I am very well aware of that

However, within in the same thread if there is an indication of whether the logged in user had made any posts or not, is what I look at it. May not be really needed by all. However, just a thought.

IMO, it is generally a good idea to review the topic before replying regardless. To just post, and not know if the topic has covered it, has detoured, or if the OP has changed the question, may be a waste of time. And knowing if you previously posted doesn't help much in this regard.

True Henry. I agree with your verse.

I had just indicated this facility would be useful for certification results related forum where most of the times the post reply would be 'Congratulations' until and unless there is a need to ask for the suggestion/tips.

It is an interesting idea. I can see multiple ways that this might be implemented.

  • A "you have 'x' posts in this topic" message
  • Changing the background color of any posts that you created so that they stand out more
  • Having a button that lets you quickly jump back to your last post in the topic (a little more work, but could be done in JavaScript client side perhaps)

  • I'll add this to the backlog of feature requests (currently quite long).

Feel free to continue discussing this / adding better ideas / refining the suggestions. Any staff member who looks at the feature requests will come back to this topic to see if there was anything added.

Thank you very much Andrew. Guess you got the essence, what I was talking about.

    Feel energized Honestly!

I had also mentioned on the "n posts" stuff. Your point on the topic the user had started is even more good!!

Would be glad indeed if this gets implemented! Let me see how other bartenders, sheriff gonna respond and take it up further!

    Thanks again!

To be honest, half the tasks in my list could be completed by anyone with a little JavaScript knowledge. It is only the meta "you have 'x' posts in this topic" that would be easier server side.

Given that, it could be quite easy for any member of this site to develop the JavaScript on their own, then submit it to us. We could then incorporate it. That would be your fastest way to get this implemented. Want to give it a try?
