Apache Commons Validator: Working With Arrays

I am using the Apache Commons Validator with JSF and I am trying to use the required validation on an array of strings. My JSF code looks as follows:



My managed bean is the following:




The following is a snippet from my validation xml:



I'm not declaring the validation in the validation xml properly. I'm using RAD and I get a red X next to the field tag stating that "The content of element type 'field' must match '(msg|arg|var)'". Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm trying to apply the required validation to the String array.
