How to create black buttons with white font?

Hi,
I'm trying to create a UIButton with black color and white fonts.
I dropped a UIButton into the view in Interface Builder and then:

- (void)viewDidLoad {
    [super viewDidLoad];
	[[later layer] setCornerRadius:8.0f];
	[[later layer] setMasksToBounds:YES];
	[[later layer] setBorderWidth:1.0f];
	[[later layer] setBackgroundColor:[[UIColor blackColor] CGColor]];
}

But nothing changed expect the button has now a more blacker border.
Any ideas?

Done guys, I have to set the UIButton type to custom in the IB.
