Placing variables for nested tiles

I have recently begun using tiles. I have created nested tiles. However in each jsp fragment I am repeating the following code:

   
 
String Lang = request.getParameter("lang");
  if (Lang == null) {
    Lang = "fr";
  }
  if (Lang.trim().equals("")) {
    Lang = "fr";
  }
  if (!Lang.trim().equals("en")) {
    Lang = "fr";
  }
 

 

I wish to avoid this. Is there any way one can place this in a variable int the parent tile and still be visible in the nested tiles. Thank you.
