Atomics vs. primitives

In reading some of the instructional pages, I noticed that
one page on variables
talked about "Atomics" but not in the concurrency sense. Are these the same things that used to be called "primitives" (int, float, char, byte, short, long, double and boolean)?

Yes, he is talking about primitives on that page.

Hi Belinda. Those are pages that have just been revamped and are still on the test server (the URL gives it away), so might not be their final form. (Did you go there intentionally or did you land there by chance?)

I'm guessing here, but I think that in this context "Atomics" should probably be "atomics", so as not to introduce confusion with classes in the atomics package. And, yes, it looks like atomics means primitives.

Check out Marilyn's post at the end of this thread for an explanation of the atomics term.

Any feedback you have for any of those pages on the test server is very welcome, thanks!

Good point. Not that it matters much in this instance, but as a general rule, you should stick to stuff on www rather than on test.

"Cattle Drive" (from the left-hand nav)
-> Assignment Java-1 (Hundred)
-> use variables

takes you to essentially the same page.

Aha, yup, the link you gave was to the test server, but indeed the current assignment page also has the "Atomics" stuff on it:

I wonder if that's intentional?
