Hi folks,
I got recently placed in 2 comapanies and im unable to decide between them.

1st one:
1)Fortune 500 multibillion dollar company
2)Good pay and perks but not much career development and salary hikes.
3)Branded
4)Storage and security domainss

2nd one:
1)medium sized multimillion company
2)Average pay but as a fast growin company has opportunities for growth both in career and in salary
3)Not that branded
4)Networking company

Can someone experienced in the industry can guide me?

Thanks in advance,
Nikitha

Nikitha,
This is going to a personal call. Which of those traits do you value more?

If it were me, I'd be looking more towards the future possibilities than immediate gain, but as Jeanne pointed out, only you can decide what's most important to you.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies guys.@Jeanne I am concerned about future opportunities and career development.

But,I think even if I work in a branded company,even later i can use this experience to climb up the career
ladder when i shift to other companies.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Nikitha

I rated the points out of 5, then average.

1st one:
1)Fortune 500 multibillion dollar company -----------------------------------------------------------------------> 3.5
2)Good pay and perks but not much career development and salary hikes.----------------------------------> 2.8
3)Branded------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> 3.0
4)Storage and security domainss-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------> NA
total--> 9.3

2nd one:
1)medium sized multimillion company-----------------------------------------------------------------------------> 2.5
2)Average pay but as a fast growin company has opportunities for growth both in career and in salary----> 2.9
3)Not that branded----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> 2.3
4)Networking company------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> NA
total--> 7.7

hence,
# 1 is average point : 2.33
# 2 is average point : 1.93

If i would in your situation, then I would go for fist one.

All the best!

This is how I generally decide :
Parameter --------- Significance ----------- Rating--------Weighted Rating
Compensation --------- 10 ------------------- 7.5 ------------- 7.5 *10 = 75
Learning (Technical)--- 10 ------------------- 7 --------------- 7*10 = 75
Learning (Domain) ---- 6 -------------------- 6 --------------- 6*6 = 36
Work Life Balance ----- 7 -------------------- 7 --------------- 7*7 = 49
Work Culture ---------- 7 --------------------- 6 --------------- 6*7 = 42
Brand Value ------------ 2 ------------------- 6.5 ------------- 6.5*2 = 13
Commutation ----------- 2 ------------------- 7 --------------- 7*2 = 14
Organizaion growth ---- 3 ------------------- 5 --------------- 5*2 = 10
Other Facilities ---------- 2 ------------------ 7 ---------------- 7*2 = 14
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total : 328

The numbers above are random but you can put in your own priority and own ratings and compute the same for both organizations before makng a decision

If an individual has never worked for a company, then how can they determine the "actual" career growth and development opportunites which exist in the company?

Of course you cant exactly know but you can have a perception based on :
1. feedback from somebody who worked/still works there
2. websites like glassdoor.com
3. your visits to the company premises during interview (Of course you cant know everything about a company during interview but if a company ranks either extreme good or extreme bad in some aspect, many a times you can sense that during interview)
