Hello fellow ranchers,

I have around 8 years of experience in Java/J2EE based development, though never been in architecture role officially. With this knowledge in place, and considering that I wanted to complete the certification before August 1,2011, what are the recommended books and approach I should be following. I see several books in the list provided in SCEA links of this forum, but I can not go for all those books. Can anybody give me a nice plan that can be adopted ?

Thanks
Ravi

I blogged about what I read. (the study guide was it.) I recommend starting there and seeing where you stand. Depending on what you've done, the book may be enough for part 1. And if it's not, it will clearly show you which chapters you need to expand on.

Hi Ravi,

New here, planning to take the same exam. What's with the cutoff date of Aug 11? Are the rules/exams going to change then?

Yeah, I think that was a stupid move by Oracle, but unfortunately that would be the reality shortly... so better to be prepared for shedding some huge bucks:-)

I am lucky that i completed everything in time.
Yes, even i didn't liked the very idea of these mandatory training courses. It will increase the overall certification cost and companies which might have sponsored the employees in past may not do it in future.
Already SCEA5 costs around $1000 with Sun's ePractice. With books and more certification packages it easily reaches $1500.

But i am seeing this as a trend as TOGAF-good number of candidates are going via training route. And there are many TOGAF training institutes mushrooming in US. This will make the certifications somewhat unpopular and of course unaffordable.
